I think it was in Ho Chi Minh City, (Saigon) that I grew into being a traveller. I was crossing the road at a busy intersection and walked decisively, watching where I was going as the motorcycles flowed past me, and as I got to the other side I thought – yep, I’m a traveller now.
I spent a month in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I went to experience what is said to be one of the busiest and most multicultural cities in the world, but it also made me question where I stand economically.
In over seven years of full-time travel, I’ve stayed in a lot of Airbnbs. These are some of the hosts I remember as being exceptional and why.
What was I thinking when I booked this place? Is this a question or an exclamation? Both fit. I knew I didn’t want to be in the centre of Ao Nang, loud crowds, thumping music wasn’t my scene (even if the cheap beer was.) But Krabi, the larger town, seemed just that bit too far away, so I looked for something in between.
This post is a little out of sequence. You left me looking after cats in Hungary, now I’m falling out with longtail boats in Thailand. I will talk about my arrival in Krabi in the next post – but this story insisted on being told first.
